SEL donates EUR 5,000 to Ukraine’s food industry workers

SEL has donated EUR 5,000 in order to aid Ukraine’s food industry workers’ trade union.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused enormous human suffering in Ukraine. Thousands of people have already died in the war and almost five million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their country as refugees. The Ukrainian economy has also suffered greatly from the war. Many workplaces have been closed and people have lost their jobs and their livelihoods.

Finnish Food Workers’ Union SEL has donated EUR 5,000 in order to aid Ukraine’s food industry workers’ trade union AIWU. The donation was made through the solidarity fund of the food industry trade unions’ international organisation IUF.

– The war has had a massive negative impact on Ukrainian trade unions’ operations and their members’ lives. With our donation, we want to support them and show our solidarity with them, says Henri Lindholm, SEL’s Union secretary and Head of international affairs.

In addition, the Nordic union for food industry trade unions NU has donated EUR 15,000 to Ukraine through the IUF solidarity fund. SEL is a member of both the NU and the IUF.

SEL has already donated EUR 5,000 through the Red Cross and UNICEF to help the Ukrainian people affected by the war and has stopped its membership benefit cooperation with Teboil.
