As a member of SEL, you can take part in the training offered by the union to develop your skills and learn knowledge and abilities that are useful in working life and in trade union activities. The trainings are also a great opportunity to meet other members of the union and to network. Almost all of SEL’s training courses are in Finnish.
Most of SEL’s training courses are held at the Murikka Institute. In principle, all working‑age SEL members can participate in courses at Murikka, but the content is especially designed for members who are union representatives at their workplace or in their local union branch. Some courses are employer‑supported training, meaning your employer pays part of the costs of attending. For other courses, the costs are covered by the union or the local union branch. Murikka Institute also offers some courses in Swedish and English.
SEL’s Do you know your rights? trainings are for working‑age SEL members, especially new members. In these trainings, you will learn about your rights at work and what trade union activity and membership are all about. SEL organizes five Do you know your rights? trainings each year, one of which is in English and two of which are for SEL members under the age of 35. These trainings are free of charge for SEL members and include the program, accommodation, meals, and travel expenses.
SEL also organizes other trainings, which you can learn about by following the union’s communications. Every year, for example, we organize SEL’s Local union branch Days and SEL’s Workplace or trade union representative Days.
SEL’s regional organizations and local union branches also arrange training for their members. SEL’s local union branches can order training from the KSL Study Centre to support branch activities or develop members’ skills at an affordable price. This year and next year, SEL’s local union branches can order a free Future Workshop from the KSL Study Centre.
