New collective agreements for the food industry: Wages to rise by 1.9% from 1.5.2021

On 27.11.2020, Finnish Food Workers’ Union SEL and Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation ETL accepted the new collective agreements for food industry workers for the period 1.2.2021-31.1.2023.

The wages and salaries of food industry workers will be increased by 1.9% by means of a general increase on 1 May 2021, or at the beginning of the pay period starting thereafter.

Besides the wage increase, the new collective agreements do not contain any other changes to existing collective agreements.

During the agreement period and no later than one month before the end of the first year, either party may terminate the agreement for the second year.

SEL and ETL will negotiate on a wage increase for 2022 by 15.12.2021 according to the general level.

If no unanimous agreement is reached on a wage increase by the deadline, the parties may agree to transfer the matter to an arbitration committee for resolution. In such a case, it would no longer be possible to terminate the agreement for the second year of the agreement period. SEL and ETL shall both appoint two members to the arbitration committee and the chair of the committee shall be the National Conciliator. The arbitration committee shall issue a binding resolution on the matter.
