10 reasons to be a member of the union

Read here why every employee in the food industry should be a member of SEL.

1. Collective agreement

The collective agreements negotiated by SEL for employees in the food industry agree on the minimum levels of salaries and other terms of employment. Local agreements can be made on working conditions that are better than those provided in the collective agreement.

2. Collective power

The more employees are members of the union, the more the shop steward and the union have the power to negotiate salaries and other terms of employment with the employer. When there are a lot of us, we can guarantee better working conditions for all of us.

3. Team

As a member of the union, you take care of yourself and your colleagues and are part of a team whose voice is heard.

4. Shop steward

The shop steward is on your side and ensures that the law, collective agreement and other agreements are complied with at your workplace.

5. Employment advice

If you have questions about your salary or other terms of employment, or if you have problems in working life, a shop steward, union experts and, if necessary, lawyers will help you.

6. Legal aid

If your matter cannot be resolved through negotiations, you may be granted legal aid paid in full by the union and the union will take the dispute to the court for resolution.

7. Respect

Being a member of the union shows that you value yourself, your work and your colleagues.

8. Power

As a member of the union, you are involved in defending and improving your salary and other terms of employment, electing a shop steward and deciding on matters in the union branch and union.

9. Membership benefits

The most important membership benefits of the union are the collective agreement, shop steward, employment counselling and legal aid. As a member, you also have access to all the other services and membership benefits of the union, such as training courses and leisure travel insurance.

10. Unemployment security

When you join the union, you can also join the unemployment fund. If you become unemployed or laid off, you will receive earnings-related unemployment benefit. The membership fee of SEL also includes the membership fee of Open Unemployment Fund A-kassa.

Are you interested in your terms of employment and working conditions?

If you answer yes, then you should belong to a trade union of your own field, as these matters are handled only by the trade union which is formed of its members.
