Food workers’ collective agreements to remain valid until 12 February 2023

SEL and ETL have agreed to extend the term of agreement of the current collective agreements by 12 days. Negotiations for new collective agreements are currently underway.

Finnish Food Workers’ Union SEL and Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation ETL have agreed today to extend the term of agreement for the current food workers’ collective agreements until 12 February 2023. The term of agreement for the collective agreements is being extended by 12 days, as the collective agreements were originally set to be in force until 31 January 2023.

The extension of the term of agreement, which was signed today, applies to all five generally applicable collective agreements between SEL and ETL: the bakery, meat processing, dairy, food industry and soft drink and brewery industries’ collective agreements.

The SEL council agreed unanimously on the extension of the term of agreement today.

Negotiations for new collective agreements between SEL and ETL began on 11 January 2023. If no agreement is reached following the negotiations, and no collective agreements are agreed upon by 12 February 2023, a period without an agreement will begin on 13 February 2023, when the current collective agreements expire. Under the so-called period without an agreement, the obligation to maintain industrial peace does not apply, which means that the parties may expedite the proceedings through industrial action.
